Fried Green Tomatoes

First, I purchased this afternoon these tomatoes on a whim. I didn't set out to make this delicious snack; however, I am glad I did. I saw these guys at the Grocery store today & couldn't resist buying them. I cut them up around 1/4 of an inch sized slices.

Then I prepared my oil ( I used Vegetable--it was the only thing in the cabinet). Then I set aside my flour, egg, and bread crumb assembly line. Usually when making these, I prefer to use cornmeal for the breading, but alas, the theme for this was improvising, so I used what I had.

Once the oil is ready, I fried one at a time. You can do more, but the pot I have only really allows for one at a time.

And Viola! A delicious treat in the middle of the day is made. I topped it off with this Easy Remoulade Sauce recipe. I'm not sure what exactly goes in Remoulade, but this turned out to be a nice pairing (and I didn't have to buy any extra ingredients--win!)

Painting: In Progress

This painting has been an on going project. Since I had to take a leave of absence, I had an extra week to wrap things up on this painting. It is supposed to be styled like the old Baroque masters, & boy, is their glazing technique quite challenging. This painting has had me ever so frustrated for what seems like the last month. I'm sure it hasn't been that long, but it has been so time consuming. It's relieving to know now though that it is coming a long quite nicely in the few days before it's due.

For the next painting assignment I will be painting a Feminine Vanitas Still Life. I'm sort of modeling it like the style in which Audrey Kawasaki paints her lovely ladies. I'm interested in learning new painting techniques, so why not try what others do?

Fall Trends

If I could pick each of my favorite items to make a quick, easy on the go outfit, this would be it. The cargo look of the summer seems to be spilling over to the fall, which is absolutely fine with me. The pairing of a simple t-shirt dressed up with a blazer plays on the trend of wearing your significant other's clothing. To top it off, I would pick the heel that is a mix between a heeled sandle and a clog.

Simple Layers in the Afternoon

Fall in the south brings weather that will be cold in the evening, cool and breezy until about three in the afternoon, and then just plain warm. I tend to overlook the weather forecast and just go with it. Today's look was just a simple layering of a dress and sweater. Of course, the day I decided to put an outfit together is the day in Painting class that I get all messy. Oh well, as is the life of the art student.
